In Jammu & Kashmir, at least eleven persons including 4 police men, three CRPF personnel and four pedestrians were injured after terrorists attacked security party with hand grenade near Palladium Cinema Lane in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar city.
Security sources said all the injured with splinter injuries were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Two women are among four civilians sustaining splinter injuries in the grenade attack. Meanwhile, the security forces launched manhunt to nab the attackers. Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit claimed responsibility for the attack.
The area has been cordoned off and the search for the suspected terrorists is underway. According to the police officials, some unknown persons hurled a grenade on police party near Palladium lane in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar.
The injured include three CRPF personnel, four Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) police personnel and four civilians. They have been taken to a local hospital for treatment and the area has been surrounded to carry out searches, a police officer said.
"Officers attended the terror crime spot&found that 4 cops, 3 CRPF personnel & 4 civilians were injured. The injured have been shifted to hospitals for treatment of their injuries. They're stated to be stable," a police statement said.
Earlier in the day, five militants were killed in a gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. Defence Ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said the five were killed in Kelam village.
Police said the precise identity of the slain militants was being ascertained. "Arms and ammunition have been recovered from their possession," an officer said.
Following specific information about the presence of militants, security forces started a cordon and search operation in the village.
As the cordon tightened, the militants fired at the security forces, triggering an encounter, police added.
